Psychedelic Tourism is when people cannot access psychedelics in their country and therefore go to another where it is accessible. This often occurs for two reasons:
- Illegality – most countries around the world have drug laws inspired by the US 1970 Controlled Substance Act which made the majority of psychedelics illegal.
- Cost – whilst there are now several countries where psychedelics are legal, the cost to obtain them are prohibitively high.
Psychedelic tourism often happens from rich countries such as the US or the UK towards going to countries which are somewhat poorer like Mexico or Jamaica.
